Artist Profile: Rita Edopu

Rita Edopu from Uganda holds a number of degrees from Makerere University where she is presently pursuing a PhD program in addition to her Masters in Painting, and her degrees in pedagogy, counseling and technology. In addition she has attended postgraduate courses in Sheffield, England. She has exhibited her work widely including venues in Uganda, South Africa, Kenya, and in the United States – New Jersey, Maryland, Rhode Island, Georgia and at various institutions such as Brown University’s List Gallery and Bowie State University. She is a lecturer at Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts, Makerere University. Continue reading

Artist Profile: Duhirwe Rushemeza

Duhirwe Rushemeza has had an extensive career in the United States as well as in her home country of Rwanda. Her work has been included in exhibitions at the Harlem School of the Arts, Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Art, Brooklyn; The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago, IL; and in Florence, Italy, among many others. She is in the permanent collections of the Embassy of Rwanda, Washington, DC; Embassy of the United States, Kigali, Rwanda; and the collections of Oprah Winfrey and James Cuno, director, Art Institute of Chicago. She has been an artist in residence at the Harlem School of the Arts and the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop and was project coordinator for the Field Museum, Chicago. Continue reading

F3B Bounces into Spring with a Fundraiser event at the Heldrich

On March 25, 2010 art enthusiasts and F3B supporters gathered at the Heldrich Hotel in New Brunswick, NJ for the opening night of the fundraising exhibit ” The Last Frontier: Contemporary Women Artists Use Their Artistic Voices to Mobilize Their Communities”. The women artists whose works were exhibited represent partner F3B countries and they are also committed to the spirit and mission of the organization. Continue reading
